Standards for the 21st Century Learner: Common beliefs

The KHS Library is a vibrant and popular hub at Kogarah High School. Students in all years are welcome to come to the library to use the facilities and resources for study and recreation.

Access the Oliver Catalogue here

The school library provides a range of resources to support learning and to encourage recreational reading in the school. The library has a broad non-fiction section for student research with a range of study guides and topical magazines. The fiction section had a wide range of books for both junior and senior students and includes a section of graded books for students progressing through all levels of reading literacy. All collections are regularly updated. The library also promotes the Premier’s Reading Challenge.

Increasingly students and teachers are using digital resources and websites and digital objects are being added to the collection which students and staff can access from the library's online catalogue.

  • The borrowing limit for students in Years 7 to 10 is 4 books.
  • In Years 11 and 12 the borrowing limit is increased to 7 books.
  • The loan period for both is 2 weeks.

The library has recently changed to the Oliver Library Management System. Students can access the Oliver catalogue from home to find books in the library, access digital resources and to check their loans. This is accessible by clicking the My Library icon on the student portal.

The library’s computers are available to students to access the internet for research, to complete their assignments and to search for library books on the online catalogue. Students have access to photocopying and a colour laser printer to print their work. The library has Wi-Fi and a charging trolley for school laptops and BYOD digital devices. There is also a television (tuned to ABC 24hour news with the volume down and subtitles on) and a variety of games, including chess and dominoes. The ClickView video platform is also available for students in the school or from home. All KHS students are welcome in the library during recess and lunchtime to do school work, to print out assignments, borrow or read books, play chess or to meet and make friends.
